Our tanning staff  is knowledgeable and will greet you with a smile, and our tanning services are available to everyone, even non-club members. We will help you determine appropriate tanning times to prevent over-exposure or burning, and we offer an extensive selection of tanning lotions, accelerators, intensifiers and moisturizers that will enhance and extend your tan. If you are unsure about what would be the best package for your tanning needs, we can discuss that as well. Our Tanning Beds
Monmouth Fitness Club Tanning Salon is proud to feaure the Tan America line of tanning beds in our facility. We have five Santa Barbara beds — high-quality, 20-minute lay-down beds — along with a high-performance, 12-minute SunUp stand-up model. All of our beds are equipped with a stereo/cd player and body fans built into the console for your convenience. We keep our equipment in tip-top condition to make sure you get the best tan possible.

Our Philosophy
We want you to enjoy yourself while tanning at our facility, but we also want you to be responsible. Our staff has been trained to take into account our clients’ skin type, recent UV exposure, and any product or medication which may cause UV sensitivity when determining appropriate tanning times. Sunburns are the main cause of skin cancer and clearly harmful to your skin. So, burning is not the appropriate way to tan. That is why we encourage our clients to be careful when increasing tanning time, and we promote responsible tanning at all times. If you are unsure about tanning times, we will gladly help you decide on a time that will be right for you. Responsible tanning also includes protecting your eyes from the UV light. We have two types of goggles for clients to use.

 Tanning Products
Tanning lotions are beneficial for three reasons: hydration, nutrition, and oxygenation. Skin needs moisture to tan, and yet tanning dries skin out; so using a tanning lotion alleviates these issues and helps your color last longer. Dry skin actually reflects UV light, not allowing it to tan underneath. Skin needs to be hydrated in order to tan its best and the vitamins in many tanning lotions aid the skin’s appearance and ability to tan. Botanical oil formulas in lotion help achieve deep oxygenation to stimulate melanin production.

MFC Tanning sells both Tanning Accelerators and Bronzers (for those seeking a more immediate gratification) in a variety of formulations from companies such as Designer Skin, Hempz, ThreVo, Dr. Sun Vitamin D, Playboy, Ed Hardy Tanning and Hippie Organic. We also offer after-tanning skin care products such as lotions and lip balms from Hempz and the local-made, family-farmed essential oil-infused Wild Carrot Herbals.

 Benefits of Tanning
Your skin exhibits a bronzed glow, but the rest of your body and mind also finds satisfaction in tanning. Vitamin D3 is known as the “sun vitamin” because it can be built up in the skin. D3 is integral in calcium absorption; the absence of UV rays can lead to a D3 deficiency which can then lead directly to osteoporosis. Regular, moderate UV exposure is nature’s chemical-free sunscreen. Your skin’s natural defense from sunburn is melanin production (a tan, basically). UV exposure can also aid in stress relief, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and as well as ease the pain from arthritis, . Some doctors even prescribe UV therapy to their patients to combat depression.
